Rainy Days and Rainy Ways

Chicago has done it again. Summer is like a mystical unicorn in this city. It's imaginary and completely non-existent. However, we can still take the simple joys that come with this chilly weather and run with it. Firstly, the fog makes for some crazy pictures so photographers can rejoice! Secondly, we have an excuse to snuggle in our beds all day and lounge in our PJs. Lastly, we can eat all the hot and steamy foods we want! The last reason is probably my favorite. Since May was National BBQ Month and the weather kept us from really doing any BBQ-ing, my girls and I decided to have our own BBQ night!

We went to none other than the traditional Cho Sun Ok for some amazing barbecue that absolutely hit the spot! Here is what we got:

For our meat, we got the chadolbaeki AKA the brisket and it was so delicious! It was partly fatty and partly lean! 100% satisfying. We were able to pair it with a simple sesame oil, salt and pepper dip and what a fantastic combination it was! I will have to order this more often even though I have a huge soft spot for samgyupsal AKA pork belly.

Next we got the yukgaejang which is a spicy beef soup and it warmed us all right up! With shreds of soft meat and a ton of veggies, you can argue that this dish is healthy for you! ;) The hearty broth also pairs really well with a hot bowl of white rice.

Lastly, we got the haemul soondubu which is also known as the seafood tofu soup. I definitely had a love affair with the soft tofu because it was just that good. The bowl also came out boiling and steaming and I am a sucker for steamy foods! The bits of seafood gave the soup a slightly sweet taste and I adored it!

What's your favorite spot to grab some Korean BBQ? Are there other dishes that you would recommend? Leave a comment! I would love to hear your suggestions.

Stay warm, darlings!
