Taste of Chicago

Hot, hot summer.

It's hot with a little bit of humid in the Windy City. With the abundance of festivals going on, we can find multiple ways of cooling off and having a good time.

This year, I was able to enjoy the Taste of Chicago thanks to Humana since they provided me with tickets for the food and concert. Not only did I get to have some delicious bites, I was able to attend the Decemberists concert as well. Getting my dance on and eating food? I can dig it. This year, Humana offered their Healthier Choices options by highlighting healthier picks with a green H with a circle around it. Did you spot it? I went off on my own to try some healthy and not so healthy picks so check out my thoughts of the food. ;)

My first stop was to the Chicago Dog House where we tried the smoked alligator and rattlesnake and rabbit sausages. The alligator tasted a bit like chicken and the rattlesnake and rabbit had more of chewy pork texture. Both delicious in their own way. Be an adventurist and try a new meat today.

My next stop was to the Mad Social tent where I got some havarti mac and cheese. Enjoyable but it was hard to tell since I was left craving for more. Guess this means I'll have to visit the restaurant in order to try the full dish.

Can you tell I strayed off the healthy course a bit? Whoops. The next stop was to Puffs of Doom where I chose the savory option. Bacon ranch mac and cheese puff was the option available when I went and the inside was very tasty. The puff itself did take a bit of getting used to but I think I liked it. I need to have more in order to make a final decision. Puff venture, anyone?

The final piece de resistance was the beef and sausage combo from Ricobenes. I mean, how can you say no to that? Growing up, Ricobene's was the cool hangout spot for anyone who lived in Bridgeport. That big group of elementary/high school kids? Probably me and some old buddies. Ah, the memories.
